Whispers of the Heart

Recognizing Divine Guidance

THE HEART ALWAYS KNOWS…

The mind has an annoying way of diverting our attention to the “what ifs.” What if something bad happens. What if we make the wrong decisions. If we spend all our time listening to the mind, we can end up living in a state of constant stress and worry, confused about what to do and how to be. The mind often mistakes certainty for wisdom. It wants to know before it trusts. It wants guarantees before it takes a step.

However, long before the human mind began to analyze, compare, and doubt, the heart helped keep us grounded. Through the heart we feel truth, even when the mind does not compute the answer. The heart speaks in a quiet wisdom rooted in the senses. It has no need to convince, defend, or explain itself. It simply knows. It recognizes truth not through analysis, but through resonance.

When we listen to the heart, we are naturally drawn toward what nurtures life, deepens love, and aligns with our highest good. The heart speaks through intuition, which cannot always be justified by logic. We simply feel an unexpected clarity, a deep sense of knowing. And this knowing comes from the still, steady voice of our truest self, quietly attuned to the wisdom of the Divine.

Listening to the wisdom within…

Learning to trust the heart is a practice of remembering. Somewhere inside we remember that we already have access to truth, but forgot how to find it. We forgot how to listen to our own inner wisdom. But the heart does not shout or demand, it waits patiently for us to become still enough to hear its voice. Once we remember how to listen, we realize this wisdom has been with us all along.

Listening to the heart means distinguishing the gentle voice of inner wisdom from the louder voices of fear, ego, and expectation. Fear creates a sense of urgency. It causes us to make quick, impulsive decisions. Ego makes us want to be in control. It wants all the power. However, the heart is never hurried or demanding. It guides rather than pushes. As we take the time to pause, breathe, and listen, the more we tune in to what the heart is saying, and the more familiar this sacred voice becomes.

Many spiritual traditions teach that the heart is a sacred space where the human spirit encounters the Divine. It is the heart chakra, a center point through which God’s love and universal wisdom flow. It is the place where love and compassion are born.

When we open the soul to kindness, we become open to utilizing the heart as a guide to help us on our human journey. Through the heart we are better able to perceive life through the lens of light and love. We are guided to seek unity and connection, instead of separation. We are moved to act in love instead of control. In this way, the heart transforms from a source of fleeting emotion to a doorway where we can experience a deeper relationship with the sacred.

TUNE IN TO YOUR INNER GUIDANCE…

Emotions are fickle. They rise and fall like the weather, and change depending on circumstances, experience, and our state of health. Listening to the heart is not the same as following every passing emotion. The heart’s deeper wisdom is stable. It’s steady, instead of being reactive. The wisdom we hear when we listen to the heart guides us to become more loving, more forgiving, more courageous, and more authentic—even when it feels uncomfortable.

As we choose to listen to the whispers of the heart, their messages become clearer. Through gentle practice, dedicated presence, and a little bit of trust, our connection with this inner wisdom deepens. We begin to seek council with our hearts during difficult moments in our lives as well as times of gratitude and joy—during moments of stillness when the heart has space to speak. Every time we quiet the mind and connect with the heart we strengthen our awareness of the Divine guidance already flowing within us. Over time, accessing the heart become more than just an occasional thing to do—it becomes a way of life.

Put it into practice:

BEGIN EACH DAY IN STILLNESS:
Before reaching for your phone or getting going with your day, spend a few quiet moments in stillness first thing. Allow yourself to simply breath for a moment and gently place your hand over your heart to focus your awareness there.

ASK THE HEART DIRECTLY:
Sometimes we avoid asking our hearts for truth because we are afraid to know the answer. But when you really need to ask God for clarity on an issue in your life, be brave and ask your heart directly. The more specific the question you ask, the more clear the answer will be from the Divine.

PAUSE AND REFLECT:
When we think impulsively, we cannot hear the voice of God. But, surprisingly, it isn’t God we need to have patience with, it is ourselves. It’s important to pause on what our hearts are saying to us. Give yourself the grace to reflect on the messages you receive.

TRUST YOUR INTUITION:
Identify whether you are listening to the voice of your heart versus the voice of your head. When we listen to the head, it often sounds like our own voices, or feels like contemplative thought. However, when we listen to the heart, the voice is a feeling, an intuition, that leaves us with a sense of “knowing.”

Remember: the Divine is not hidden in distant mountains or moments of enlightenment. It is present in every heartbeat. It is the quiet awareness beneath every breath we take. It is present when we act with compassion, in every expression of gratitude, and when we choose love over fear. We have never been disconnected from the Divine. It is our origin source and us always within us.

As the noise of fear subsides within us, and the whispers of the heart become easier to hear, we find direction and purpose again. We feel the love of the Divine. We remember how to live with greater compassion, deeper trust, and a heart that is fully awake. Through the heart we can access this connection again, and are reminded why we began this human journey in the first place.
